FAQ Answers
  1. How will I know when my domain name registration is up for renewal?

You will receive an email notification (sent to the email address for the domain's Administrative Contact) at 60 days and at 30 days prior to the domain expiration date. Additionally, the Domain Manager will indicate domain name(s) due to expire within 60 days.

You don't have to wait for your domain name registration to expire before you renew it. You can extend the term of your domain name registration at any time by clicking this Renew Domain link.

  2. Can I renew a domain name through SelectNet if it was originally registered with Network Solutions or another registrar?

Yes. However, you will need to do a Transfer of Registrar first. The transfer will automatically add another year to your domain registration expiration date. If you would like to have additional time, then you can Renew online here.

In order to transfer the Registrar for your domain name, you will need a valid credit card (online process only) and access to the administrative contact email address on file for the domain name with the current registrar. Please click here to submit your transfer request online or fax in a Domain Registration/Transfer form to 760-438-1954.

  3. How much does a domain name renewal cost?

The renewal cost for a domain name varies, depending on the TLD (.com, .net, .cc, etc.) and the number of years you select. Please refer to our Domain Details for more information.

  4. In what increments of time can I renew my domain name registration?

It depends on the domain name. Your .com, .net, or .org domain name can be renewed from 1 to 10 years. However, the domain registration term can not exceed 10 years at any one time. Other domain renewal times are set by that country's registry. Visit Domain Details for more information.

  5. Can I renew my domain name registration term before my current term is set to expire?

Yes, you can renew your .com, .net, and .org domain name registration at any time during the registration term by clicking here, or by visiting the SelectNet Web site (http://www.select.net) support area. Please note that your total domain registration time can never exceed 10 years for .com, .net, and .org domains.

  7. What will happen to my domain name if I don't renew the registration?

If you choose not to renew your domain name registration term, the domain name will become available for registration upon the expiration of the current term to other potential registrants. All associated services will cease working until the name is renewed (if and when this happens). Further, modifications to the name (contact information or Registrar transfer) are not possible after a domain's expiry (until the domain is renewed). OpenSRS domains are deleted and made available again 45 days after expiry. ccTLD domains each have slightly different rules. None of these services are more than a year old so OpenSRS has not formalized the procedures.

  8. When and where are renewal notification email messages sent for expiring domain names?

The domain name renewal reminder email is sent at least 30 days before the domain name is set to expire. An invoice is also sent via U.S. Mail approximately 30 days before the domain name is set to expire. The email is sent to the administrative contact and the invoice is sent to the billing contact for the domain.
